One of the hallmark symbols of inventiveness, innovation, and ideas is the almost universal symbol of a light bulb. The incandescent light bulb is one of the most major historical inventions because it was able to harness the power of electricity for a highly useful purpose for people.
Thomas Edison is often credited with the invention of the light bulb, and rightly so. He tried out many different filaments before finding the perfect one, and also introduced a system of light to the public. Even in his case, however, he did somewhat stand "on the shoulders of giants," as others had earlier made significant contributions to generating light from an incandescent light bulb .
Most importantly, the invention of the light bulb undoubtedly completely changed the course of history, hopefully for the better.
