A lot of ideas, interesting facts, endeavors, subjects, or technologies often have trouble gaining traction with the general public. I have noticed, however, that if you were to, in some way, convert those less popular pursuits into some form of entertainment, the public more readily embraces them.
For example, where I live, there is a science exhibition that basically tries to attract young kids and their families by having lots of fun science games and science shows. Similarly, airplanes are quite boring, and another event is to therefore host an air show displaying the flying talents of pilots. Yet another way of popularizing is to turn the study of plants, botany, and biology into gardens, where they are called, "botanical gardens." This often draws more people to the garden, where people eventually do learn more about plants and life.
