What do you feel are among the most important inventions during the internet revolution in the past decade and a half since the start of the internet age? What internet innovations do you think are most important?
The internet will likely continue to develop, mature, and improve. Many of the most important key concepts of the internet, however, have already likely developed. It's therefore good to reflect and see what are some of the most important helpful inventions of the internet and outside of the internet introduced into mainstream culture during the last 15 years or so.
I'll start off with a few:
(1) search engine (revolutionized especially by Google)
(2) instant text messaging (pioneered mainly by ICQ)
(3) online videos (mainly Youtube)
(4) wireless internet
(5) laptops / netbooks
(6) social bookmarking and social networks (Delicious, Flickr, MySpace)
(7) direct online publishing (Blogger, WordPress, Twitter)
(8) cell phones
(9) iPod, iPad, iPhone (Apple)
(10) LCD monitors and LCD TVs
(11) digital cameras / digital camcorders
(12) speech recognition (Dragon NaturallySpeaking)
