On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright succeeded in creating the first airplane. After many years of research and development, they were finally able to create a machine that was capable of flying. Although the first flight only lasted 12 seconds, subsequent flights were much more successful.
This invention was significant because it enabled fast transportation over land and sea. Before the invention of the airplane, people and goods traveled either on trains or ships. Although it is unfortunate that this technology would be used for destruction in the following two world wars, the invention played an essential role in shaping the modern commercial world.
